They can sell the membership to those millions of people that subscribe to the newsletter.

There is no form of advertisement or publicity stronger than being able to contact someone directly who has confirmed interest in what a given company has to offer by providing their private details and begging you to contact them with more information on their products or services.

You probably will ignore this but Costco's business model is unique because it is driven primarily by membership fees and not product markups. It is reasonable to say that they make .03 cents profit if that on a 50 lb bag of rice. So how would you make money through mass product sales if you open the online presence to everyone when your business model is that of membership renewal and upgrade fees? Your example doesnt make sense and it doesn't make sense for a company like Costco to put more investment into its online store when it is a members only club...

Hello Daniel,

I must say that I'm impressed with this case study.

As an advanced Internet Marketer myself, I believe you nailed it.

Big corporations like Costco are leaving a lot of money on the table by not doing things like e-mail marketing, lead capture, and auto responder campaigns properly.

Especially guys with insane traffic such as Costco.com

Their offline work is amazing, but a guy like you simply surpasses them in terms of Internet Marketing.

Good stuff!
