What You Need To Be A Successful Work At Home Typist
If you're tired of your current job, want to make more income, have more time with your family, and essentially have more freedom then a work at home typist position may be just what you need. Why, because it doesn't require a lot of technical knowledge like programming would and is very quick to get into.
That being said, being a work at home typist does require a few things so that you can be successful in a short period of time.of course, you will need to have a reasonably up-to-date computer with either the Microsoft Office suite or the free alternative Open Office on it as well as access to high-speed Internet and potentially a long distance plan on your phone. You may even want to have a second phone line dedicated to just your business.
Beyond that of course you will have to have knowledge of how to operate your various programs, and if you don't you'll want to either take an online class, a course at your local college, or for those of us that are self-taught user buy a book at the bookstore or go to the library. And, if you feel that your typing skills are not up to scratch, which is essential for a work at home typist, then there are various free test you can take first to see exactly what your speed and accuracy are in second, so you can quickly improve upon them.
Once you're comfortable with your programs, and your typing accuracy and speed are at a level with which you're happy, what's next? As a work at home typist you now have essentially three choices: you can go to any of the big freelance sites and bid on various projects, or you can join up with a professional work at home site, in which case you will be assigned a manager who will act as a go-between with you and your client and will help you find projects that are suited to your skill set. Finally you can simply start up your own writing business.
There are pros and cons to each of the above choices, but as a work at home typist you need to pick one and stick with it. How do you do this? Consider first of all you like to work. Are you someone that needs a lot of interaction between colleagues or are you someone that works best on your own picking and choosing projects that appeal to you?
If you decide that you crave autonomy and the ability to set your own prices, then setting up a work at home typist business would be the way to go. By doing this once you get traffic and your first few clients you will be able to take on projects that appeal to you and as you go along elevated your rates.
Above all, regardless of method you choose to begin your work at home typist career you must be prepared and have the discipline to work sometimes long hours and on projects that you may find personally boring. if you are able to do this, realizing that projects that don't appeal to you won't last forever, then you will eventually find the success that you are looking for.
